67 Bricks’s co-founder Sam Herbert is delivering the plenary presentation at the OpenAthens conference on Thursday 19 March, helping librarians and publishers explore how they can modernise the outputs of the scholarly research ecosystem so it is fit for the digital age.

The event, which will now take place online, has a packed agenda with notables from JISC, British Medical Journal, EBSCO and Geological Society joining Sam on the agenda.

Sam said:  “Librarians, as well as publishers, are important stakeholders in many of our projects. There is a lot of discussion at the moment around how prepared they are to navigate the new technologies that are transforming how we consume information.

“Disruption to publishers and libraries’ traditional value propositions, which has come in the form of new technologies and digital channels, means users require a different and improved experience.  They want the same outcome – academic research and information – but delivered digitally, quickly, and tailored to their individual needs.  We’ll be discussing how librarians and publishers can figure out their new role in the digital era and deliver more value.”

The winner of the OpenAthens’ inaugural Best User Experience Award will also be announced on Thursday.  67 Bricks’s client Emerald Publishing are short-listed alongside Cambridge University Press and Bloomsbury Publishing.
